HP2550 Personal Weather Station

HP2550 User Manual

The HP2550 is a current model low-cost weather station that can easily connect to a number of weather sites including a custom site. The weather station consists of:

  • a display console that contains the display, radio receiver for the sensors and the wi-fi connection to the Internet,
  • an indoor sensor that measures the internal temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure,
  • an external unit including thermo-hydrograph, rain gauge, wind speed & direction.
  • In addition to these basic sensors, a large number of optional sensos can be added to the system. They include additional thermo-hydrograph units, soil moisture units, lightning sensors, air quality monitors and leak detectors.
  • The readings from this weather station can be viewed on Weather Underground. To change the measurements to metric, select the gearwheel symbol in the top right corner of the page.

In the URL, the number red "XXXX" passkey is a number that is unique to each weather station.. The datetime in purple is generated by the weather station based on its internal clock and the time zone setting which is also set during the setup process. For a message to be recorded, the ID, PASSWORD and action must be correct. The dateutc cannot be a datetime that has been previously entered into the database for that station.

For a personal system, a small system such as a Raspberry Pi or similar can be used to collect the readings from the local weather station.

Reading Parameter

Comment

PASSKEY

This parameter is set to the identification string that identifies the weather station. This value is defined within the weather station's software and is not settable by the user.

stationtype

This string identifies the software version that is running on this weather station.

 dateutc

This is the datetime of the observation in Universal Time. This time is preferred because it does not have the problems that can occur when daylight saving is added and removed where reading datetimes can double up or appear to be missing. The datetime is in the format "YYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS".

tempinf

This is the internal temperature from the sensor mounted in the external anemometer/rain gauge head. The temperature reading is provided in degrees Fahrenheit.

humidityin

The indoor relative humidity represents the percentage of the amount of atmospheric moisture that can remain as a gas (not condense) at the current temperature. The internal relative humidity is provided as a percentage between 0 and 100%. If the sensor cannot make an accurate reading because the atmospheric moisture is so low, it is display "--". This does not indicate that the sensor is defective - it will start providing as reading when the relative humidity rises.

baromrelin

The relative barometric pressure reading is the absbaro reading that has been adjusted for the height of the weather station above Mean Sea Level (MSL) to show the atmospheric pressure that would be read at MSL. The pressure reading is provided in inches of mercury.

baromabsin

The absolute barometer reading is the atmospheric pressure measured by the barometric sensor in the external head. The pressure is measured in inches of mercury.

tempf

This is the external temperature from the sensor mounted in a separate sensor. The temperature reading is provided in degrees Fahrenheit.

humidity

The outdoor relative humidity represents the percentage of the amount of atmospheric moisture that can remain as a gas (not condense) at the current temperature. The external relative humidity is provided as a percentage between 0 and 100%. If the sensor cannot make an accurate reading because the atmospheric moisture is so low, it is display "--". This does not indicate that the sensor is defective - it will start providing as reading when the relative humidity rises.

winddir

The direction of the wind during the period that the wind speed was measured, The wind direction is measured relative to True North (not magnetic North as set by a compass). The wind direction is measured in angular degrees (0 - 359) clockwise from True North

winddir_avg10m

The average direction of the wind during last ten minutes. The wind direction is measured relative to True North (not magnetic North as set by a compass). The wind direction is measured in angular degrees (0 - 359) clockwise from True North

windspeedmph

The wind speed in miles per hour.

windspdmph_avg10m

The wind speed averaged over the previous ten minutes in miles per hour.

windgustmph

The maximum wind gust in miles per hour.

maxdailygust

The maximum wind gust for the day in miles per hour.

rainratein

The rainfall rate in inches per hour.

eventrainin

The amount of rainfall in the current event in inches.

hourlyrainin

The amount of rainfall in the current hour in inches.

dailyrainin

The amount of rainfall in the current day in inches.

weeklyrainin

The amount of rainfall in the current week in inches.

monthlyrainin

The total rainfall for the month so far in inches.

yearlyrainin

The total rainfall for the year so far in inches.

solarradiation

The light level measured by the external head as Watts per square metre (W/sq.m) reading.

uv

The UV reading that has a calibration factor applied to give the UV-index reading.

temp1f (... temp8f)

This is the temperature measured by the first optional temperature/humidity sensor. The temperature is measured in degrees Fahrenheit. There can be up to eight (8) temperature/humidity sensors.

humidity1 (... humidity8)

This is the relative humildity mrssured by the first optional temperature/humidity sensor and is in %RH. There can be upto eight (8) humidity readings.

soilmoisture1 (... soilmoisture8)

There can be upto eight ground moisture sensors that can be connected to the weather station by radio. At this stage, the format of the message is not known.

pm25_ch1

This is the current PM2.5 particle reading for channel 1 in µg/cm3.

pm25_avg_24h_ch1

This is the PM2.5 reading average over the last 24 hours.

wh65batt

The status of the WH65 unit battery. 0 = ok, 1 = low. (I think)

wh25batt

The status of the WH25 unit battery.

batt1 (... batt8)

The status of the optional temperature/humidity units.

Siolbatt1 (... Siolbatt8)

The spelling with "Siolbatt" and the capital letter is correct for earlier versions and represents the battery state of the soil monitors. It appears to read the voltage of the AA battery in the device. Later software versions use "soilbatt".

pm25batt1

The battery reading of the PM2.5 sensor. The meaning of the reading is unknown as yet. It read "3" when the batteries were first installed and rose to "5" as it charged. It appears to be steady on "5" now.

freq

The frequency of the radio frequency tp the remote sensors. 433M would indicate the frequencey as 433 MHz.

Model

The string identifies the model of the weather station.

lightning_time

Time of last lightning strike in Unix Time Format

lightning_num

Number of Lightning Strikes

Lightning

Distance to the last strike

wh57batt

Lightning Detector Battery Voltage - Range 1 .. 5
